History
In 1983, American engineer Andrew Conru launched WebPersonals.com (now owned by LavaLife), which he then sold after the concept of cyber dating took off. [3] This sites initial success was the impetus behind "FriendFinder.com", which was created in 1996 by Conru who envisioned a one-stop solution for seeking, finding, and managing all types of online relationships. [2] When members began uploading more risqué photos than were appropriate, the adult-content site AdultFriendFinder was created, becoming more popular than the original. Soon, more friend-type sites were launched, such as GayFriendFinder, SeniorFriendFinder, Passion, Amigos, among others.
