OkCupid (home page)The dating site okCupid.com (Alexa: 1,555; Jul 08) is a free online site, founded in 2003, powered by a matching system that users invent. Joining takes 60 seconds and the matching starts immediately.

History
OkCupid is an evolved version of the 1999 prototype site TheSpark.com, whose matching mascot was the "Pimpin’ Cupid", conceived by Harvard undergraduate mathematician Chris Coyne, over Thanksgiving weekend, November 1998, in a brainstorming secession with his college roommate Eli. [1]

Matching algorithms
An interesting detail about okcupid is that its users create the matching algorithms; e.g. it will create a list of users, within a certain distance, that are interested in a key word, such as “wiki”. [2]

In terms of relationship chemistry, the logo (pictured adjacent) for okcupid is a beaker type test-tube with heart-shaped bubbles coming out of its tip.
