In dating wikis, Personals Wikia is a prototype Wikipedia-style personals site, launched in 2006, themed to be a “free and open global dating site with the best quality, like Wikipedia for online encyclopedia?". [1] The idea, however, seems to have fizzled out most likely due to limitations of the standard Wikia software and the lack of knowledge of wiki syntax in the general population. History
The site was started on about April 14, 2006 by several Wikipedians guided by a few sparse email conversations with Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales. [2] The original idea was that just like Wikipedia, there would be a big need for such a project and millions would join. By July of 2008, however, there were only 73 scattered random articles, each having at most a few edits per month, in a state of wiki-decline. [3]
